Has degrees in Architecture (METU; AA, London), Town Planning (UC, University of London), and Political Science and Public Administration (Ankara University). Has been the former Editor of METU JFA, and has acted as Vice Dean to the Faculty of Architecture at METU for 12 years. Elected (Sept. 2011-) as the coordinator of the ‘Disasters and Social Crises Research Network’ of the European Sociological Association (DSCRN, ESA). His publications relate to the topics of housing, planning, disasters and risk management and mitigation planning. RUHİ KAFESÇİOÄžLU; Professor Emeritus
Is Emeritus Professor from İstanbul Technical University, Faculty of Arhitecture, where he earned Associate Professor degree in 1954 and Professorhsip in 1965. Established the Building Materials Laboratory at the same institution. Has numerous publications, particularly on earth construction buildings and earth as building material.

MEHMET KARACA; B.Sc., M.CP.
Received his B.Sc. degree at the Department of Landscape Architecture, Ankara University and his M.CP degree at Gazi University. He is a landscape architect in the private sector.  His areas of interest are landscape architecture and urban design.

KEMAL REHA KAVAS; B.Arch., M.Arch., Ph.D.
Assistant Professor at Architecture at Akdeniz University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Antalya. His research focuses on domestic space and environmental aesthetics. Has PhD in social geography. Is a researcher at the Urban Planning Institute of the Republic of Slovenia. G. PELİN SARIOĞLU-ERDOĞDU, B.CP, M.CP., PhD.
Studied City and Regional Planning at METU (B. CP. 2000; M.CP. 2003) and University of Groningen, in the Netherlands (PhD. 2010). Graduated from Yıldız Technical University, Department of Architecture in 1991 and wrote her postgraduate thesis on the topic of “Greek Architects Operating in İstanbul between the years 1800-1950” at the Architecture History and Theory Department of the same university. Employed at the Kocaeli University Faculty of Architecture and Design as Associate Professor since March 2012.

PIETER R.A. TERPSTRA;
Graduated in social sciences; worked as a consultant for a private advisory company. His PhD was about local employment policies. Worked as associate professor in the Faculty of Spatial Sciences of Groningen University until his retirement in April 2012. Research areas are real estate development and spatial planning.

ALAIN THIERSTEIN, BAdm., M. Econ., Ph.D.
Is full professor for spatial and territorial development at the Munich University of Technology, Department of Architecture; and senior consultant and partner with Ernst Basler Partners Ltd., Zurich, a private engineering and planning consultancy. Current research interests include impact of the knowledge economy on urban and mega-city regions development, sustainable regional development, innovation and regional policy as well as policy evaluation.

SELÇUK UÄžUZ, B.Sc.
Received his bachelor degree in the Department of Economics at METU, in Ankara; currently working for an international construction firm in İstanbul.

TOLGA ÜNLÜ; B.CP, M.CP, Ph.D.
Received his degrees at Department of City and Regional Planning, METU. Has research about physical development and planning history of Turkish cities, and especially of Mersin and their morphological transformation. Main fields of  interest are urban design, design control, urban morphology and planning and urban history. FLORIAN WIEDMANN; BArch., M.Arch, PhD.
Post-doctoral fellow at Qatar University. Graduated from the Technical University of Dresden (2003) and the University of Stuttgart (2006) with a Master’s degree in Architecture and Urban Planning. After completing his Master’s dissertation on the urban development of Dubai, continued his research on urbanism in the Gulf region with a PhD thesis at the University of Stuttgart (2007- 2010).
