ABIDIN KUSNO, B.A., M.A., Ph.D. Currently Associate Professor and Canada Research Chair in Asian Urbanism and Culture at the Institute of Asian Research at University of British Columbia. Graduated from Petra Christian University, Surabaya, Indonesia (1991); received M.A. in History and Theory of Art and Architecture, (1993), and Ph.D. in History and Theory of Art and Architecture, at Binghamton University, SUNY(1997). An Indonesian architectural and urban cultural historian, his research has focused on colonial and postcolonial politics of architecture and urban space. Published books and articles on architecture, spatial politics and historical memory in Indonesia.

Is currently directing a research project on the Henri Prost’s planning work in İstanbul (1936-1951). HENRY SANOFF, AIA. Professor Emeritus, College of Design, North Carolina State University. Widely published and known for his many books - including, 53 Research Papers in Social Architecture: 1963-2005; Programming and Participation in Architectural Design; Three Decades of Design and Community; Community Participation in Design and Planning, Creating Environments for Young Children, School Design, Integrating Programming Evaluation and Participation in Design, and Visual Research Methods in Design. Is the USA editor of the Journal of Design Studies, and the founder of the Environmental Design Research Association (EDRA). Has research concentrated in the areas of social housing, children's environments, community arts, aging populations and community participation. Has been a visiting lecturer at more than 85 institutions in the USA and abroad.
İLHAN TEKELİ; C.E., M.S., M.CP., M.A., Ph.D. Distinguished professor of METU Faculty of Architecture, the Department of City and Regional Planning. Wrote and co-authored more than 60 books; over 1000 papers and articles, the full account of which is to be found in the book İlhan Tekeli İçin Armağan Yazılar (2004) published by Tarih Vakfı Yurt Yayınları, İstanbul, to celebrate the Symposium dedicated to his 67th birthday.

TIMOTHY M. ROBERTS, B.A., M.A., Ph.D. Currently Assistant Professor of History at Bilkent University. Has written several articles on the influence in America of the 1848 Revolutions, including “’Revolutions Have Become the Bloody Toy of the Multitude’: the 1848 Revolutions, the South, and the Crisis of 1850,” Journal of the Early Republic (2005), which won the best article prize of the Society of Historians of the Early American Republic. In 1996, he also was awarded an historic preservation award by the City of Tallahassee, Florida, USA, for his sensitive rehabilitation of a nineteenth-century bungalow style house.
